About Easdale: Atlantic Adventure Day

Atlantic Adventure Day 2012 is on Saturday 11 August
Atlantic Adventure Day was created in 2009 and is now the second largest fundraiser on the island after The World Stone Skimming Championships.
It is usually held on a Saturday in August although the date is dependant on tides which must be suitable for the sponsored swim across the Atlantic (in Easdale Sound).
The day features fun for all the family with Raft Races, Aquathon (swim the sound & run round the island), sponsored swim, duck race, games, wheel barrow races, craft stalls, cake & candy, BBQ, kayak races, round the island trips by Sea.Fari Adventures and much more. There is also an Inter-Island Team Challenge which involves teams of 4 competing in the Aquathon, Kayak Race & Raft Race to win the trophy for their island.

In the evening there is a family dance in the island’s community hall (www.easdaleislandhall.org) with live music, an auction and a raffle.
The day focuses on fun, however, safety is paramount and the organisers provide rules of entry and a disclaimer. We also advise that the swim although a short distance is a challenge and should not be undertaken lightly. It is in cold, open water which can be choppy and there may be strong currents. Children under 16 must have signed permission from a parent/guardian and all participants must be of suitable ability to undertake the swim.
The Kayak Race starts from Easdale island harbour out to and round the perch at the north end of Easdale Sound then down to the perch at the south end of the sound and back in to the harbour.
Raft races take part in the harbour.

This raft race is for kids, isn't it Alan. Yes Alan.
The Aquathon incorporates the swim across Easdale Sound from Ellenabeich back to the island and then a short run around the island on rough and uneven slate tracks and paths.
Participants for all the events take part at their own risk and a disclaimer form must be signed beforehand and handed to the organisers. Registration can be done in advance by downloading the appropriate forms or just arrive early and register on the day in the community hall from 11am. Entry Fees are listed on the registration form for each event.
We welcome wild swimmers and kayakers from further afield to come and take part in this fun but competitive challenge.
The organisers welcome prior notification of any Team entries for the Inter Island Team Challenge. If you are interested, please email us at . Further information on the event can also be obtained at this email address
